Insulin Resistance and Diabetes Nutrition

Nutrition that supports blood sugar balance, reverses insulin resistance and helps manage type 2 diabetes.

What is Insulin Resistance and Diabetes Nutrition?

An insulin resistance diet is medical nutrition therapy that aims to increase insulin sensitivity through low-glycaemic-load carbohydrates that do not spike blood sugar, adequate protein and fibre, regular meal spacing and the right food pairings. Applied correctly, a measurable improvement in HOMA-IR and fasting insulin is expected within 3–6 months.

Constant fatigue, sleepiness after meals, sugar cravings, fat around the waist and difficulty losing weight are the most common signs of insulin resistance. It is not a disease but a metabolic state that can be reversed with the right nutrition.

In my programme your fasting insulin, fasting glucose, HOMA-IR and HbA1c are the starting point, and progress is tracked against them. In type 2 diabetes and prediabetes I work in coordination with your physician.

Who is it for?

  • People diagnosed with insulin resistance or prediabetes
  • Those seeking nutrition support in managing type 2 diabetes
  • Women with insulin resistance alongside PCOS
  • People who cannot lose weight and feel constantly hungry
  • Anyone with a history of gestational diabetes

How does the process work?

Blood work analysis

Fasting insulin, glucose, HOMA-IR, HbA1c, lipid profile and vitamin D interpreted together.

Glycaemic balance plan

Blood sugar swings are reduced through meal timing, carbohydrate quality and food pairing.

Follow-up and re-testing

A control test is recommended at month 3; the programme is updated according to the change in your values.

What does the programme include?

  • Test interpretation and target setting
  • A filling, low-glycaemic-load personal plan
  • Strategies for sugar cravings and night eating
  • Exercise and meal timing guidance
  • Medication-nutrition alignment coordinated with your doctor

Frequently asked questions

Can insulin resistance be fully reversed?

In most cases, yes. Nutrition, weight loss (especially from the waist) and regular movement increase insulin sensitivity markedly; in many of my clients HOMA-IR returns to the normal range within 3–6 months.

Are bread and fruit completely off-limits?

No. Wholegrain bread and fruit stay in the plan with the right portion and pairing (together with protein or healthy fat). The key is managing glycaemic load, not banning foods.

Should I see a dietitian while taking metformin?

Yes. Medication complements nutrition; it does not replace it. As your nutrition improves your doctor may re-evaluate the dose.
